The name of the organization is CHInese Microsoft Employee, hereafter referred to as CHIME.
CHIME was founded in early 1990s by a group of Chinese employees of Microsoft Corporation. It is endorsed by Microsoft Human Resources as one of the official Employee Network (EN) groups under Asian Employee Resource Group (ERG), with designated executive sponsors, and an elected board with a Chairman. Its membership is voluntary and open to all employees of Microsoft worldwide.
微软华人协会（Chinese Microsoft Employee Network），简称微软华协，是微软公司的一个多元化团体，成员包括公司在全球各地的华人员工，也包括对中华文化和中国发展有强烈兴趣的其他背景的员工。微软华协现有成员3000多人，是微软公司最大最活跃的多元化团体，也是西雅图乃至美西海岸最大的华人华侨团体之一。
微软华协设董事会和顾问委员会。董事会设在美国西雅图微软总部，负责规划、组织、管理和协调协会的日常事务和各类活动，董事会共有董事13人，现任主席是微软高级软件设计师沈寓实 （Yushi Shen）博士，副主席是资深项目经理常青（Elaine Chang）女士和高级软件测试工程师罗敏（Min Luo）女士。顾问委员会负责对协会工作给予建议和各方面的资源支持，其执行主管为微软三位全球副总裁张亚勤（Ya-Qin Zhang）博士、沈向洋（Harry Shum）博士和古卓伦（David Ku）博士。
